The proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act are harmful, short sighted, and do not benefit humans or animals living in Ontario, only certain, harmful types of businesses. In my opinion, the Ontario PCs and Doug Ford in particular should be and must be held accountable for the loss of habitat and loss of species that will occur if this legislation is so significantly altered. This should be challenged in court. Doug Ford’s recent public statements about his desire to change the judiciary to elected judges, regarding Ontario’s bike lanes, indicates that Ford at best does not have an understanding of the role of Ontario’s judiciary, and at worst wants to upset the balance of power in Ontario. Species at risk will be another of the fatalities of this push towards total control and disregard of the need for checks and balances. It shows the deep disrespect and disregard for life of all kinds at the Ontario Legislature and in the OPC.
