I’m very against this. We already degraded so much of our habitat and natural resources that provide valuable ecosystem services and we don’t need to further harm endangered species. The wording of this proposal makes it seem as though as long as you fall within the guidelines you can just register your project and it won’t cause damage to the ecosystem. Speaking as someone who works in the landscaping profession and has had to get multiple permits from various conservation authorities, this is the wrong approach. A better approach to the permitting timelines would be to put more funding into the conservation authorities for better turnaround times on permits, not strip the natural world of its scant protection from developers. Once that ecosystem is destroyed it cannot be rebuilt as it once was. The natural world and habitat need to be treated as a finite resource that is very quickly depleting. How are you planning on feeding the people living in new developments if there is not enough biodiversity in our province to sustain the pollinators necessary for food production?
