This proposal will do irreversible damage to our wildlife here in Ontario. There are important acts in place that have kept endangered species protected and the new acts are solely based on political and financial gain within the Ford government. The new definition for habitat outlined in this proposal does not consider important feeding grounds and migration routes of endangered species and only counts their immediate surroundings. This would cause important sites they rely on to be destroyed and cause damage to those ecosystems. I strongly believe there is not enough environmental education from politicians and from private independent companies in this government to govern which species will be added or removed from the list of endangered species. This gives the government unlimited power to control very important and delicate ecosystems for economic control. Construction and development in housing need their own revisiting in Ontario, but this new proposal would allow developers to build on these sites without ministry review or approval. Crucial environmental assessments wont be done there causing damage, with no penalties. We are in a global biodiversity crisis where 230 plants and animals at risk in Ontario, if this proposal passes will have failed our wildlife, land, and ecosystems we have to fight hard for every year with the looming threat of climate change and corporate greed. Please do not pass this bill into legislation.
