Can the Conservatives CONSERVE nature too please?

"The government would also have discretion to remove protected species from the list." is highly alarming regarding that if a protected species is in the way of a proposed construction plan, what's stopping the government from taking it off the list and green lighting the plan?

Is it bad that a process is slow and complex because it's important? Shall we create legislation to throw out the accounting cycle too while we're at it?
