I cannot begin to express how disappointing it is to see a government undo the progress that has been made in species conservation in Ontario. While I'm sure my comment will have no bearing on the outcome of these proposed changes, I couldn't live with not having said anything. As our are understanding of how the world works and the importance of preserving our natural environment becomes more apparent every waking day, it's devastating to see short sighted policy changes that will inflict irrevocable damage to Ontario’s conservation efforts. What is the point in even proposing a species conservation act, when the very act weakens our ability to preserve what we have. I would like to know what other options were considered when drafting these proposed interim changes? Why are these changes the best option that Ontario has to unleash our economy? Is the plan to put the responsibility on our children to fix the problems we create? It's a lot easier to preserve what we have then to replace what we've lost, which in some cases is impossible.

I would love to see a decision matrix outlining why this is the only viable approach. Because from where I stand, the decision to replace the Endangered Species Act has nothing to do with conservation or unleashing our economy.
