I live in Toronto and do not support this change to legislation. This legislation would remove habitat protections and would completely trample Indigenous rights and sovereignty. This law would lead to more environmental destruction in an era of climate change where all climate scientists are telling us we need to do more to protect the environment and animals, not less. This law would roll back needed protections to keep our environment safe and healthy for people in Ontario as a destroyed habitat does not make life better for us, even if there are more buildings. I don't want to live in a world where the air outside is toxic and we have no wildlife.
This is a clear power and money grab on the part of the Ford government and is being pushed through now while everyone's attention is turned to the impacts of the Federal election and Trump.
Framing environmental protections as in opposition to development is short sighted. There is no point in having more development if the area you live in is uninhabitable due to environmental damage. There are many ways to continue economic growth without trampling the environment. Do not let this bill go forward - it will cause irreversible damage to the environment which in turn, will damage the economy.
