Bill 5 is an omnibus bill which if passed puts not only endangered species but at -risk species at huge risk. This also puts no rules/laws in place to protect the environment. The Endangered Species Act needs strengthening not dismantled. This proposal for a Species Conservation Act doesn't even protect the forests, wetlands or feeding grounds of species. Developers MUST continue to be monitored and subject to the review of professional environmentalists, especially as climate change as increasing effects. An application first approach is frankly unacceptable as developers will be free to build once they've registered with NO oversight. This is an environmental nightmare. Does this government not care if the world burns and floods? Yes we need homes and yes the rare minerals should be mined BUT we do not need to kill our environment and many species to do so. Work WITH the environmentalists! The inclusion of Special Economic Zones sounds like a free-for-all in terms of development. This is completely unconscionable.
