Subject: Strong Opposition to Proposed Rollbacks on Species at Risk Protections
I am writing to express my strong and unequivocal opposition to the government’s proposed changes that would weaken critical protections for species at risk, in the name of “streamlining” development.
Let me be clear: these proposed changes are not improvements—they are a dangerous retreat from science-based policy and environmental responsibility. The current government’s framing of endangered species protections as “unnecessary delays” is not only misleading, but deeply troubling. It sends a message that economic convenience is being placed above ecological survival and long-term public interest.
This is not leadership. This is short-term thinking that sacrifices the natural heritage of this country for private development interests.
I, along with many other concerned citizens, will not stand by quietly while the government moves to dismantle environmental safeguards that generations have fought to uphold. These protections were created to prevent irreversible harm—to biodiversity, ecosystems, and the future wellbeing of Canadians.
If this bill proceeds, it will face strong and sustained public opposition. Your government must understand that people are paying attention, and we will hold our elected officials accountable—at every level, in every forum.
Instead of weakening protections, the government should:
• Improve coordination and efficiency in environmental assessments without compromising integrity
• Provide more resources to support sustainable infrastructure planning
• Invest in innovation that balances ecological preservation with development
We need bold, future-facing leadership—not reactionary policies that threaten what we cannot afford to lose. I urge you to withdraw this bill and recommit to environmental policies that reflect the values and priorities of Canadians who believe in responsible stewardship.
