As a citizen (born and raised), I am strongly opposed to this Bill. Not only would this be disastrous to the environment and the endangered species in Ontario, this will also be harmful to residents as environmental impact studies (which are part of this Bill’s removal) assess the harm to the environment in the present and future. We may think this will only affect wildlife but it will affect us as well.
There are ways to expedite construction without removing these protections put in place to ensure we don’t lose species or harm the environment.
Staffing offices that handle proposals would be a good way to not only expedite construction (as they would be able to go through them faster), it would also provide jobs to an industry that is low on jobs right now AND would still allow us to protect the environment and endangered species.
If this Bill were to pass, we would absolutely be looking back on this in 10 years, wishing it never was. I guarantee this will have consequences in the future that we will not be able to undo. Once a species is gone, they’re gone. Want people to stop comparing Doug Ford to Trump? Stop doing things Trump does, this isn’t a good look for Canada and it makes me embarrassed to be living here.
