I strongly oppose Bill 5. I do not trust that the government is acting in good faith with this bill, particularly given their track record of corruption related to the green belt land grab and Ford’s cozy relationship with developers. This is clearly going to disproportionately benefit developers, at the expense of nature and future generations of Ontarians. Ford proved with Bill 23 that getting rid of checks and balances does not work for nature - the TRCA was stripped of its powers and I have seen first hand how private institutions have taken advantage of that to develop environmentally sensitive areas that would previously have been off limits or at least held to a higher standard of development.
We cannot have our government fighting to go backwards on environmental policy at a time when climate change is the biggest threat to our current standard of living. And we cannot have a government behaving in such a way that the entire population has to protest in order to keep them honest.
Doug Ford needs to back off on his attacks on our environment.
