This government has no mandate to decide which species deserve protection. Once a species is gone there is no turning back. It is gone forever. There is little sense in putting up a fence around a small area where an endangered species is found if the environment all around it is destroyed. Politicians have no expertise in making those kinds of decisions, which will have lasting consequences for future generations. This government seems to think that it can bulldoze whatever it wants with no regard for the health of the ecosystems of this province.
The Endangered Species Act was enacted to make it a legal responsibility of the government to protect our ecosystems and this government is abandoning that legal responsibility. Shame. There will be no science involved if this government has its way. We will all pay, present and future generations, for this crass decision.
This government thinks it can override Indigenous rights as well as environmental concerns. That was done in the past but it is completely unacceptable as we have come to learn. This government needs to recognize that and end this move to ignore rights, accountability, and science. Politicians are not experts. They must consult those who are.
Even proposing this legislation is a total disgrace.
