As an engaged, educated and informed Ontario citizen and also an Anishinabek citizen, I denounce this bill. Bill 5 puts profit and the economy before Ontario’s commitments to climate action, to improve relationships with First Nations, and our charter protected rights to life, liberty and security. We are in a climate crisis and this decision will exasperate that and leave us more vulnerable to it, effectively putting the very lives and wellbeing of Ontarians at risk - especially future generations who will pay the price. We do not inherit the earth from our grandparents, we borrow it from our grandchildren. What will be left for them? Also, this is and will always be native land, and we must be consulted with on these decisions about our lands and projects that impact our rights based on the treaties, our inherent rights, and international laws. This economy is a man-made structure that does not yet take into account the very laws of nature that created and sustain all life. It’s time to adjust your economy, and stop raping Mother Earth to solve the problems your government created.
