I am very opposed to Bill 5.
I think we need stronger protections for endangered species, not less.
I’m opposed to creating shortcuts for industries with no public oversight. Removing public oversights invites opportunities for nepotism, favouritism, and avenues for companies to fast track corporately motivated plans that may not be beneficial, or may even be harmful, to the citizens of Ontario. Industries and companies need to be held accountable, and our current standards are in place for that reason.
And lastly, I’m opposed to overriding the law in special economic zones. This change would put places like reservations at higher risk for exploitation. If anything we need more input from our indigenous community, to work toward more environmental, and by proxy, economic, stability.
Bill 5 doesn’t put Canadians or Ontarians first. It prioritizes selective industry advancement at the expense of the average Ontarian.
