Our world is in desperate need of protection - we need strong leaders to stand up for our lakes, rivers, wetlands, farmlands, forests, and all of the amazing species within them. These creatures are on the brink of extinction already and we cannot risk losing more by loosening regulations; these protections were put in place for a reason, and it is wrong to remove them. Our descendants need us to take action now if they are going to have any hope of a livable world. "Progress" must include not only building and constructing but also preserving and supporting the natural world.
I strongly oppose Bill 5, the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act. This legislation poses a serious threat to Ontario’s natural heritage, democratic processes and Indigenous rights.
I urge the Ontario government to withdraw Bill 5 in its entirety and instead work with environmental experts, Indigenous leaders and the public to strengthen — not dismantle — our systems of environmental protection.
Protecting nature is not a barrier to economic growth. It’s the foundation of a healthy, resilient and just society for all.
Thank you.
