As an Ontarian who deeply values our natural environment, I’m heartbroken and frustrated by the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act and the introduction of the Species Conservation Act, 2025. This isn’t just about plants and animals on a list—it’s about the kind of world we want to leave behind.
We’ve already lost so much. Paving over wetlands, destroying forests, and prioritizing short-term development over long-term sustainability is not progress—it’s negligence. The ESA, 2007, was one of the few things actually holding us accountable. Weakening it or replacing it with a watered-down version feels like giving up.
Protecting endangered species shouldn’t be optional or negotiable. These are lives, ecosystems, and stories we’ll never get back if we let them disappear. Please don’t trade them away for convenience.
