I strongly oppose Bill 5 and urge the Ontario government to reject any legislation that weakens environmental protections, especially for endangered species. This bill opens the door for industries to build and develop in ecologically sensitive areas without sufficient government oversight. It puts short-term profits ahead of long-term sustainability and public interest.
Ontario has a responsibility to protect its natural heritage for future generations. Stripping conservation authorities of their power and allowing development without thorough environmental review will lead to irreversible damage to critical habitats and species already at risk.
We need stronger, not weaker, safeguards for endangered species. This includes science-based decision-making, meaningful public consultation, and transparent accountability for industries. The government must prioritize the environment, not pave over it.
Please withdraw Bill 5 and instead strengthen laws that protect the land, water, and wildlife that make Ontario home.
