The proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act along with the rest of Bill 5 should be seriously questioned in its actual worth to Canadians. This type of action that strips environmental protections and indigenous rights in the name of the economy is a Neo-liberal tactic often used but rarely successful. Instead, it uses the excuse that under funded government agencies are under functioning (due to a lack of funding) to remove critical safeties and rights that benefit the people in the name of profit for select few. This Bill is another attempt to remove common goods and due process which is what democracy is founded on. If you as the politicians who represent us allow for such legislature to be passed you move against the people who you serve and towards those with moneyed interests in the goods we share. While the Canadian economy needs assistance removing the ability for government agencies to do their job is not it. Instead, fund those agencies, and find methods to protect Canadian interests without furthering Indigenous land theft and removal of rights. While indigenous people might be some of the most focal on the rights of the land and environment their work protects all of Canada from environmental instability. Please consider that short term profit (which most of the Canadian public will never see) is not worth the removal of Canada's long term stability and resource wealth.
