I Don’t like bill 5. The wetlands are too important to lower or drop the regulations. They might make things harder for builders, but they make things better for the community:

It's like the steps to making a good apple pie. You need to do all the things in the recipe, and follow all the rules to get that good apple pie. Cut one or two steps, and the quality drops. You get eggshells and salt chunks. It’s no good.

The quality of new home construction is already in the gutter. Builders cutting corners and shoty construction. The birds literally left our neighborhood when that subdivision was put in a couple streets down. That subdivision was built right on wetlands. The redwing-blackbirds were gone for two years. They’re only just starting to come back and sing again.

I shutter to imagine what would happen if the regulations didn’t protect some of the natural environment enough for the birds to return. Not to mention it’s literally the flood overflow area in our city. We can’t drop the standards of our regulations. They are there for a reason.
