I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 5. This legislation undermines crucial protections for endangered species in Ontario and threatens the biodiversity that sustains our environment, economy, and well-being.
Every species plays a role in the health of our ecosystems, and once lost, they cannot be replaced. Weakening protections in the name of short-term development or administrative ease sends the wrong message: that our natural heritage is expendable.
We have a responsibility, as stewards of this land, to protect and preserve it for future generations. Conservation isn't an obstacle to progress; it is a moral and ecological necessity. Rolling back safeguards for at-risk species not only jeopardizes wildlife but also the quality of life for all Ontarians.
Please prioritize science, sustainability, and long-term vision over short-term gains. I urge you to withdraw or revise Bill 5 to strengthen, not weaken, protections for Ontario’s endangered species.
