This is a disgusting attack on the province's environmental protections. Beyond the moral dimension, it goes against the province's Indigenous considerations, its commitment to horizontal policymaking, and the health of one of the province's crucial sectors-- tourism. Your economic zoning proposal is a clear power grab, and make no mistake, if you go through with it your electorate will respond appropriately. Your electorate made their feelings on the Greenbelt perfectly clear, why you think this is acceptable is beyond rationalizing. More disgusting yet is that you're attempting to sneak this bill under the radar by accelerating the approval process in a time of general political upheaval.
I am the first to appreciate the necessity of expanding our critical minerals sector, but mining has serious deleterious impacts on surrounding communities. Each project must be evaluated thoroughly and skeptically, and cutting red tape does nothing-- except, perhaps, line the pockets of your corporate allies, as your government has repeatedly shown a predisposition towards.
I have historically seen good sense in other dimensions of your government, and so am disappointed by the repeated terrible decision making in regards to the Greenbelt, Indigenous issues and Ontario's environmental commitments. You are aware, I think, that your re-election, much like Carney's election, was a direct outcome of Trump's comments and the general American circus. You will not have that benefit a second time, and will see serious consequences from your electorate by continuing these ill-measured policy pathways.
