I am very strongly opposed to Bill 5. The proposal to change from a permit process to a registration where work can begin immediately after is absurd and will be detrimental to ecosystems, our environment, and ultimately Ontarions’ health. If the permit application review process is slow due to limited staffing, then increase the staffing! If it’s slow due to the time needed to conduct surveys and collect the information necessary to ensure endangered species and their ecosystems are protected then deal with it. Ontarions want affordable housing but NOT at the cost of losing our environmental protections. This current government has not earned the people’s trust when it comes to land and development. It is easy to see this bill prioritizes profit (and likely for a few developers) over the long term interests of the people and it will surely result in the loss of endangered species.
