Hello,

I do not agree with the changes being proposed to the Endangered Species Act, and the current new proposal for the Species Conservation Act.

I do not believe that economic development should override protected areas or protections for wildlifein any case. These areas have been protected and are already too few in number and in terms of kilometres. The fact that activities which do follow federal protections regarding migratory species won't even require permits or registration is horrible. Harassment of animals was also listed as not requiring any type of registration or permit.

Canadians believe protected areas to be havens for wildlife, something which we pride ourselves on. If these changes go through, then protected areas will not carry the same weight. We are living through a a massive biodiversity loss. We do not need to make it worse by lowering protections, we need to find ways for economy and conservation, environmental restoration and nature in general to benefit each other. Look for green industries, ecotourism, and ways to conduct business that does not hurt our natural spaces and wildlife.

To summarize, we should NOT remove the endangered species act, unless it is replaced with something with MORE protections.

We should NOT create "special economic zones" to allow development to override protections.

Lastly, listing endangered species should be based on evidence, not the governments' feelings on the matter.

What I love about living in Canada is our nature and wildlife. Please do not take it away from me.
