I strongly oppose Bill 5: the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act and its proposals.

Part of what makes Canada, this Country, and Ontario so special is the abundance of our wildlife and biodiversity and our commitment to prioritize and protect already at risk species that have already proven to be heavily declining in many areas. Completely side stepping the regulations that protect not only our heritage, our environment and the people is a egregious over reach of power. It’s a time not to do what is easy but do what is right. We cannot only consider mass development as part of our growth without also considering the environment, our peoples and our heritage and fair due process of adhering to protections in place.
It is not the time to make rash decisions that will have ever lasting effects under the guise of tariffs and the United States. It’s a time to look at what makes Ontario so unique, and understand we can continue to build and grow in an environment worth protecting and still the very things this bill is completely side stepping under the promise of “unleashing” economies. This is not what Canada is all about. This is unacceptable.

The Special Economic Zones Act is a serious over reach of power and make it easier to avoid laws and by-laws put in place to protect from these very things. To protect public health, Indigenous rights and the environment alike Rewriting policy and completely side stepping Environmental protections and swapping out the Endangered Species Act based on our own conveniences is not acceptable. We need to do what is right, not what is easy for the overall greater good of Ontario.
