I strongly oppose Bill 5 and the proposed changes to the Ontario Endangered Species Act. I oppose creating short cuts for industrial projects and fast tracking projects with no public oversight. We should be strengthening environmental and species protection not weakening them which Bill 5 would certainly be doing. I oppose overriding the law in special economic zones. This act clearly prioritizes economic considerations over species protection when the whole point of the Endangered species act is to prioritize endangered species above all other considerations. This act removes protections for habitats and recovery plans and does nothing but decrease protections for species. Bill 5 should not be passed.
