This proposal weakens critical safeguards for endangered species and their habitats. By giving the government discretion over which species receive protection and removing automatic enforcement of scientific assessments, the proposal undermines science-based conservation. The shift to a “registration-first” system also allows potentially harmful development to begin immediately, without thorough review, increasing the risk of irreversible damage to vulnerable wildlife. For advocates of animal protection, these changes prioritize short-term economic gains over long-term ecological responsibility.
In my view, this proposal poses a serious threat to biodiversity and should not go through.
