I oppose bill 5 and support stong environmental regulations. All developers and industry should be required to meet strict environmental guidelines, no shortcuts to public oversight of the development process. We only have one chance to get this right. Rushing is not he solution, and removing regulations will not fix our housing crisis or the economy. As someone who success built my home responsibly with minimal environmental impact within the Niagara Escarpment Zone, I can say that the process was not that timely or expensive for me. It did not deter me from building my home, but did ensure that I was doing so in a way that would not harm the local environment. Developers and industry should be held accountable to the same regulations, regardless of where they build. No special economic zones!
