I strongly oppose this bill as a concerned Ontario citizen. The detrimental impact this bill will have on Ontarians, our environmental resources and wildlife is significant. We currently have protections in place for endangered species and this bill will eradicate them and replace these protections with extremely flimsy legislation that will simply not have the same protective impact. When it comes to our environment and endangered species, nothing should ever be fast tracked as evidence based research and public consultation needs to drive this process and ensuring that there is ample oversight so that we do not do irreparable damage to our environment. There is zero doubt the proposed changes are root in seeking private profit and land development. There is no reason for fast tracking mining and infrastructure development and prioritizing quick access to permits over doing thorough assessments and permit applications. The Ford government is behaving as if it is their right to put our protected land and resources up for sale which is not in the best interests of their Ontario constituents and future generations of Ontarians. Their callous treatment of our environment, land and resources may irreversibly impact our province in ways we cannot come back from. It is extremely suspect that this bill is being quickly and quietly pushed through forgoing the full democratic process. There is meant to be is ample time with this type of bill for research on the impacts of these changes, and for people to voice their concerns and opinions through public consultation. Eroding this process is sending a strong message to Ontarians that the Ford government values private profit over public interest and it is reckless for this bill to proceed. I would strongly urge all elected officials in a position to strongly oppose this bill to do so and send a firm message to the Ford government that our province is NOT for sale.
