I am completely and utterly opposed to these changes. Endangered species are important parts of the ecosystems that make Ontario, Ontario. Protecting the animals living by our sides is a moral obligation as a society, to ourselves, to the world around us, and to our children and future generations.
Furthermore, is this really where the Ontario government should be focusing its effort right now, in the face of annexation threats by the current US administration? Let's focus our energies on things that will make Ontario strong, and not by weakening legislation that was put in place to protect Ontario.
Yes, we need to build more but the way to do it is not through the blood of endangered animals. It feels like the Ford government has learnt nothing from the fiasco with the Greenbelt - Ontarians care about the ecosystems that we live in, none of us want their protections weakened just to put up a few buildings. Nature is the lifeblood of this province, blowing it up to bits for the sake of a few homes is not worth the cost. It's a lot easier and cheaper to proactively protect than to try and repair the damage caused by these short-sighted moves.
