Bill 5 is an absolute disaster waiting to happen. The elimination of environmental protections and regulations will have detrimental consequences for our country, let alone our province or even just our little town of Dresden Ontario.
In Dresden Ontario we have a very unique situation where Mollys creek and the Sydenham River are both homes for a variety of wildlife and aquatic species including many species on the endangered species list. These species who are native to this area are also considered endangered will not be able to just be relocated somewhere else. The Sydenham River and Mollys creek have a special ecosystem that consists of a clay bottom that creates great homes for turtles and certain fish, bottom feeding creatures and specific plants as well. Our river water does not look like a typical river as it looks like a mud puddle but it has a purpose in being brown. That purpose is in the clay and the species of plant, animal and aquatic life and nature at it’s finest.
Why would anyone want to put a dump landfill on a property that has a very special aquatic ecosystem running through it. Mollys Creek runs through the property on which YORK1, now Whitestone Fiels Ltd (owned by an executive of YORK1), is planning on opening a dump landfill on. It claims it will not be an issue and not go near the water. Unfortunately, those of us know the exact location of this property and know that 600-700 transport trucks a day can not be handled at that “facility“ even running 24 hours a day 7 days a week. That’s 6000 tonnes a day. This property is not that big.
Also the fact that there are well for drinking on the property or very adjacent to the property that would have to be switched to “city water supply” which is not on the plans for the project.
Why would we not want to assess what companies are doing to the environment before they are set free to destroy our communities, our towns, our land and waterways, our province and our country. Please Mr Ford save our Province and our town. Think of your children, grandchildren and our future as a whole.
