I strongly oppose this proposal. Bill 5 appears to prioritize speeding up development at the expense of Ontario’s endangered species and natural ecosystems. While I understand the need for efficiency in housing and infrastructure, weakening protections for species at risk is short-sighted and irresponsible.
Biodiversity loss is a real and growing threat. Ontario has already seen significant damage to wetlands, forests, and habitats under previous legislative changes. This proposal will only make matters worse. Once a species or ecosystem is lost, it cannot be replaced. Protecting endangered species isn’t a “delay” or “complication”—it’s a moral and ecological obligation.
The current system exists to ensure decisions are science-based, transparent, and balanced. Gutting it to fast-track development will further erode public trust and harm the environment irreversibly.
I urge the government to invest in smart, sustainable planning—not shortcuts that come at the cost of wildlife and future generations.
Ontario should lead in conservation, not regression.
