I oppose Bill 5 because it weakens Ontario’s commitment to protecting endangered species and their habitats. Environmental protection must not be sacrificed for short-term industrial convenience.
Replacing rigorous environmental permits with a registration-first system invites industry shortcuts and puts vulnerable ecosystems at unnecessary risk. We need stronger—not weaker—safeguards in a time of escalating biodiversity loss.
Bill 5 undermines public oversight and reduces accountability by allowing projects to proceed before proper environmental reviews. This shift prioritizes development over conservation, endangering the very landscapes and species that define Ontario.
I urge the provincial government to uphold the original intent of the Endangered Species Act: to protect the most at-risk plants and animals in our province. The future of Ontario’s environment depends on strong, science-based protections—not deregulation.
