Hello,

I am writing to provide comments on the “Proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and a proposal for the Species Conservation Act, 2025”, ERO # 025-0380.

I do not support the proposed changes outlined in the proposal. I have significant concerns with the following:

1. Registration-first approach – this will likely cause more harm on species at risk and/or their habitat.
2. Species Classification and Listing – the government should not have the power to add/remove species to the list of protected species. This should be based on scientific-evidence and by qualified experts
3. Redefining “Habitat” – the new proposed definition is very narrow and will likely increase harm to species and expedite species decline.

The government should be increasing species at risk protections, not decreasing them.
