I am suspicious of this proposal, because of its timing. How can we trust the government to enforce species protection laws and to do habitat restoration to protect/conserve species? How can people be sure that this isn't just to fast-track the 401 tunnel that, according to the own government's experts, is not feasible (nor would it actually help)? The government has already lied when it came to the Greenbelt. It has already lied when it came to the Ontario Science Centre. It has already lied when it came to Ontario Place/luxury spa debacle. So, this proposal, while looking passable on the surface, does not seem to be trustworthy especially given this government's track record. I think the government should just drop this proposal and focus on fixing our public schools, our public healthcare and so on. Those are in dire need of help. I would also say that the government should focus on protecting the jobs that thousands of people are losing right now and are set to lose in the future instead of focusing on fantasy projects under the guise of "nation-building".
