I am a lifelong resident of Ontario, and I think this bill would be a grave error with devastating and irreversible consequences for our Province. Natural areas are essential for human health and prosperous communities, and your proposed changes to their protection would leave us vulnerable to public health, food security, infrastructure, flooding, property value and economic crises as we pay to replace the totally free and massive amount of labour natural areas do for free (health benefits, prime agricultural lands, drainage, cleaning the water, preventing erosion, pollination, managing insect/ mosquito populations, ecological health and keeping Ontario a desirable place to live— to name just a few). This bill is remarkably short sighted, is not in the public interest, and is clearly the result of developers aggressive industry lobbying and back door politics. I beg the house to reject Bill 5 in it’s entirety.
