The approach to conservation of not just endangered, but all native species, should be complex & require ample unbiased & ethically obtained evidence that a project will have minimal or no impact on the area’s environment.
There is no excuse nor reason to lessen such vital restrictions in the name of so-called progress. To create some legal bypass around conservation does a grave disservice to the entire worldwide ecosystem & sets a dangerous & harmful precedence. One that other parts of Canada & the world at large may follow. As Canadians we want to be world leaders in the protection of the environment, not in the destruction of it.
A highway or any other man made structure will never approach the importance of keystone species or wetlands, the very concept of the idea that it could is disgustingly incorrect.
Protection of the environment enriches are economy by providing jobs in conservation & related fields, as well as through domestic & international tourism to our beautiful corner of the earth.
Please, side with nature, conservation workers, generations yet to come, & yes, the frogs, & stop treating vital portions of the ecosystem as baggage & obstacles to progress. Embracing them is the key to true progress & economic growth. Not a highway that will save commuters 10 minutes on average that will quickly become just as congested as the others once commuters learn of the new & allegedly faster route.
Stop hiding behind forced studies. It is a façade to believe that this is the correct way forwards.
