I oppose bill 5.

The Endangered Species Act does not slow down approvals unnecessarily. It is supposed to slow down approvals, for the sole function of PROTECTING the habitat of endangered species, not restoring it AFTER it has been DESTROYED. The Minister of Energy and Mines has NO formal education on ecology or biology; why should he be granted the power to decide which species are endangered and which are not with zero evidence to explain his decision? What is stopping him from removing a species' endangered status if it prevents industry from extracting resources for profit? This sets a dangerous precedent.

I want environmental protections for endangered species. It is a right, not an inconvenience. Under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (1999), every Canadian has a right to a healthy environment. A healthy environment is defined as being “clean, healthy, and sustainable.” The proposed bill will allow mining companies to extract resources with little oversight and zero responsibility to remediate their contamination. This constitutes a violation of a Canadian citizen's rights under CEPA.

Ontario's economy is stronger WITH environmental protections in place, not with without them.

I oppose shortcuts for industry with zero public oversight. This is a threat to democracy.

This bill reeks of corruption. I BEG those in power - who are parents and grandparents to our future generation - to consider how much our little children need a clean and safe Ontario in which to grow and live.
