I am opposed to this new legislation as it will further destroy ecosystems, watersheds, and more species will become at risk.
While greenbelts and protected areas should not even be on the table for future housing or infrastructure.
Build smarter in existing urban and suburban areas. Limit the corporate greed and luxury building that is happening. Better use of obsolete government properties and holdings and work with the federal government that are looking to dispose of their properties and buildings.
The UNDRIP Act of 2021 states that there must be Free Prior and Informed Consent for First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Many areas are Treaty lands or title land of the Indigenous Peoples. Both the Ontario government and federal government MUST consult and engage with the Indigenous Nations in a nation to nation agreement.
Continued disregard and carelessness in protecting species, insects, pollinators, plants, waterways, etc. will further degrade the lands and lead to lack of clean drinking water for all and food insecurities.
