I am absolutely horrified by Bill 5. I am furious that I have only 30 days to comment. Some of us work (sometimes more than one job) and have families and other responsibilities—we don’t have much time to do our research and write our comments and 30 days is absurd if you are really interested in hearing our opinions. (which perhaps you are not).
Here’s the best I can do in this limited time frame:
I am requesting the immediate removal of the Bill, including schedules 2, 3, 5, 9, 10.
Did you have an ulterior motive to create schedules 2 and 10-- which would be to allow the mass extinction of all endangered species!! Because that’s what will happen if you pass Bill 5.
I’m not sure who told you this was a good idea, but it certainly wasn’t from the expert scientists in our Province. Could it have been some developer friends? You must know that hoping to preserve endangered species through voluntary initiatives will never work and eliminating requirements to create recovery strategies for at-risk species just puts the icing on the cake for mass destruction of wildlife.
Narrowing definitions of "habitat,” permits their destruction, exactly as you did with narrowing the definition of “wetland.”
I would be happy to send you books on environmental science and perhaps you could read a little to understand that the destruction of habitat and wildlife species is just the forerunner to our own destruction. Can you just imagine he world you are making for your children and grandchildren by trying to pass a Bill like this?
Introducing broad Ministerial decision-making creates a dictatorship. Science must not be partisan nor political. I’m so disappointed in you, Doug Ford. You promised us you’d fight against Donald Trump for Ontario, instead I feel as if you have become Donald Trump by trying to take all the power away from the people. I think Bill 5 is deceitful and immoral and we, the regular people of Ontario beseech you to change your mind.
We are a democracy, not an autocracy. Just because we agreed with your stance on Trump doesn’t mean you have a mandate to destroy all of nature in our beautiful Province. Honestly, if Bill 5 passes, then it hardly matters if Trump takes over, because our Province will become a hideous, grey and lifeless place to hang our hats. I will be embarrassed and humiliated to say I live in Ontario—a place where it seems that greed overshadows so many decisions made by you, Mr. Premier.
I could go on and on—watering down enforcement powers? Reducing government accountability? Permitting the harassment of species? And removing the requirement to create a list of species, classified as extirpated, endangered, threatened or special concern? These are not wise decisions if we want to ensure a quality of life for future generations.
Additionally, we must keep the environmental assessment for Eagle’s Nest mine, don’t touch the Mining Act, and OMG the special economic zones act is the scariest act I’ve heard about in a long time. You can exempt certain projects from our laws??????? You and Mr. Trump, eh?
You seem to be following Trump’s lead by ignoring science and trying for a power grab to help yourself and your friends. I’m disgusted.
