As an Ontario citizen, I am completely against this proposal. I do not believe that, without a thorough review, we will truly understand the impact reducing wildlife habitat will have on our environment. And I do not believe that the type of housing that these changes are designed to promote is the type of housing that will have an impact on our housing crisis. They are virtually entirely in the interests of high-end single home developers.
Even the Government's own description of the changes demonstrates this bias: "Under the current Endangered Species Act, 2007 (ESA) program, the process to obtain a permit is slow and complex, causing unnecessary delays and costs for housing, transit, and critical infrastructure. To help speed up project timelines and provide greater certainty for proponents, while protecting species, the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is proposing a number of changes to its approach to project approvals." Protecting endangered species and their habitat is only slow, complex, and unnecessary in the minds of these Developers, and their supporters in the Government.
I strongly encourage the Government to reconsider this action.
Thank you.
