I oppose repealing the Ontario Endangered Species Act, as it is a critical policy that ensures a minimum level of protection for species living in Ontario, which also help people live and thrive sustainably. Repealing the Ontario Endangered Species Act would put hundreds of plant and animal species at further risk of extinction and allow the destruction of essential natural environments.

Ontario residents value nature. We need natural green spaces in order to live in a healthy environment. We also depend on many plants and animals to survive. Bees and other insects are essential for pollination of agricultural crops. Trees and other plants help protect us from environmental threats such as wildfires, air pollution and toxins, and land erosion. Habitats must be protected.

Ontario residents also value local democracy and want to have a voice in what happens in their area. Meaningful community and Indigenous consultation on land development must be continued. Community consultation helps create better outcomes for everyone.

Allowing developers to start projects without proper environmental evaluation is dangerous not only to the species in the area but to the local communities as well. Development projects should always be evaluated by experts.

I oppose Bill 5. I also oppose overriding the law in special economic zones, or creating "regulation-free" zones.

The Endangered Species Act is NOT red tape - it protects all of us and our futures.
