In spite of the positive-looking spin that is put on this proposed legislation (Bill 5), it is obvious that the Ford government is continuing to whittle away at endangered species and their habitat. For example, the government deciding if a species should be removed from a protected species list, or allowing harassment of wildlife, or allow almost any activity in a protected area just through registration. We are selling our souls to the devil when we diminish our environment.

Sustainable development is not sustainable when you have to overrun the very land that supports us. This is being done under the provocative title of "... Unleashing our Economy..." The Ford government needs to be far more creative in how it grows our economy; going down the same worn path is no longer the right path. Ford needs to overcome the fear of growing in a different, truly sustainable direction.

What is needed is far smarter urban development planning than what this government is currently engaged in. We need to have denser housing, reduce the size of houses, protect our farmland and our wild lands. I encourage you to examine the better development practices that are required in land-poor countries such as Holland. Gone are the days when we felt entitled to a huge chunk of land for our too large homes.

The wonderful natural environment that made Ontario great is grossly threatened by actions such as Bill 5. If this government truly is thinking of protecting our natural environment, then let's see it gain the endorsement of bona fide environmental organizations. I dare you to put this Bill to that test!
