We need to continue to protect endangered species, even more so than before. The loss of ecosystems and biodiversity has an immediate negative impact on everything important to people too. Clean air, clean water, pollinators for our food, seed dispersal and more. It also helps in preventing and over-run of pests and disease, which is bound to happen when we pave over everything and cram a bunch of people into small spaces. The only thing left will be rats and roaches.
I understand housing is important and cutting red tape seems like a good idea at the time, but once we destroy our green space and potentially destroy entire ecosystems, there's no going back and I'd rather live in the beautiful green Ontario that I grew up in rather than the hellish congrete jungle sprawl envisioned by our provincial government.
I also do not believe that building more housing will drop rental or home prices. This is coming from someone who desperately wants to own their own home. The problem is not the red tape of tools that protect the environment, like the endangered species act, the problem is GREED.
