Environmental protection exists for a reason. Opening the floodgates to further habitat destruction through unregulated development in the name of economic growth is ecological suicide. And we are seeing in real-time what happens when you choose to skip environmental impact assessments: Fast-tracked development of Ontario Place has already led to habitat destruction for native species, and now wild animals are being euthanized because of harmful interactions with people. How many other creatures need to die because we're too greedy to coexist with anything but ourselves?
