am writing to strongly oppose any move to weaken or dismantle Ontario’s Endangered Species Act. Such a decision would be short-sighted, irresponsible, and a devastating blow to the province’s environmental legacy.
The Endangered Species Act is one of our most important legal tools for protecting biodiversity. Removing or weakening its protections puts countless species—and the ecosystems they sustain—at serious risk. Once a species is lost, it is gone forever. This is not a reversible decision, and the consequences will be borne not only by wildlife, but by future generations of Ontarians.
Let me be clear: this is not just about animals and plants—it’s about clean water, healthy forests, stable climate, and the wellbeing of all Ontarians. Our economy and our quality of life depend on thriving natural systems. Undermining environmental protections is a sign of poor governance and an abdication of responsibility.
Moreover, gutting the Endangered Species Act is not what Ontarians want. It benefits a narrow group of industrial interests at the expense of the public good. A government that puts short-term development over long-term sustainability does not serve its people—it betrays them.
I urge you to act as stewards of this land, not destroyers. Strengthen the protections we have, don’t dismantle them. Ontario deserves leadership that looks beyond the next election cycle and toward a livable, thriving future for all.
