At a time when scientists are telling us that we are in a biodiversity crisis, I feel it is irresponsible to be removing environmental safeguards or exempting ‘special economic zones’ from the same due process as any other area. While we need to fuel our economy and find places for our waste, we cannot do this at the expense of our environment. I am concerned about the impact the changes Bill 5 will bring will have on our environment, species already at-risk, our land and food systems, our waterways, and our community health across Ontario. I am also very concerned that there does not seem to have been consultation or consent from First Nations.
