Dear Premier Ford and Members of the Ontario Government,
I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to the proposed removal of the Endangered Species Act under Bill 5. This legislation threatens not only Ontario’s fragile ecosystems but also the values and memories that many of us who call this province home deeply cherish.
I grew up in the Mississauga and Georgetown, spending countless hours hiking the Bruce Trail and exploring the protected natural spaces. Some of my best memories are in these places. These landscapes are home to rare and vulnerable species found nowhere else, and I recognize their importance.
As a kid my family has always voted Conservative. But after taking some time to follow Doug Ford and his actions as Premier - this government has really turned me off the path I once supported. The ongoing erosion of social services, the deep cuts to our healthcare system, and these disregards for environmental stewardship have been deeply troubling. I don't understand it. Public trust is built on responsible leadership—yet these reckless and self-serving decisions are shameful.
I am not against development, it needs to happen. But it is becoming painfully clear that this government is not acting in the best interest of Ontario’s people, its environment, or its future. There are paths forward that include everyone—and we need leadership with the courage to pursue meaningful, inclusive solutions.
Please, I urge you to reconsider this destructive course. We are watching—and we will remember.
