I strongly oppose the repeal of Ontario’s Endangered Species Act, 2007 and the introduction of the Species Conservation Act, 2025. The 2007 Act is one of the strongest tools we have to protect at-risk species and their habitats. Replacing it with weaker legislation that prioritizes development over conservation will only accelerate ecological decline.
The lack of oversight during the demolition at Ontario Place is a warning: it created a nightmare for Torontonians and displaced urban wildlife, including coyotes who lost critical habitat. Without strong, enforceable protections, this kind of reckless damage will become the norm.
We need science-based environmental laws that prioritize ecosystems—not loopholes for developers. Keep the ESA 2007. Our future depends on it.
