re. ERO 025-0380
I am completely opposed to the proposed changes to the endangered species act. I worked in the natural resource field within Ontario for 40 years. At the beginning of my career I did not fully appreciate the complexities and importance of our natural environment - I was young and uninformed. I am now 65 years old with a lifetime of knowledge, experience and wisdom enough to know that we can no longer afford to abuse the natural environment which our planet gifted to us. We have somehow managed to take a planet that existed quite well on its own for billions of years and significantly destroy much of it in less than 200 years. Projecting this trend forward it is clear that we will destroy the planet and our ability to exist.
Three of the keys to our continued survival on this planet are biodiversity, biodiversity and biodiversity. Every living thing on this planet is part of a linked chain. Yes each link may consist of multiple species but as we lose them the links become weaker until the chain breaks and cannot be put back together. As this happens there is an acceleration in the degradation of the chain and soon after a point of no return.
The right choice is not to enact legislation that accelerates our demise but to do the opposite - save what we still have left and fight like hell to get back what we have destroyed.
