Absolutely disgraceful. The Ontario government's opposition to repealing the gutting of the Endangered Species Act is a blatant betrayal of our responsibility to protect the natural world. Instead of standing up for vulnerable wildlife and fragile ecosystems, they’re siding with developers and corporate interests—again. This isn't just bad policy, it's ecological vandalism. We are in the middle of a biodiversity crisis, and the government's refusal to act is not only shameful and selfish, it's dangerous. Future generations will look back at this moment and wonder how our leaders could be so short-sighted and daft.

"Wetlands are essential for mitigating climate change, storing an astonishing 29 billion tonnes of carbon in Ontario alone. Wetlands also act like giant sponges during heavy rainfall, significantly reducing floods that harm property and livelihoods. Southern Ontario’s wetlands provide habitat for 20% of Ontario’s species at risk including the province’s eight native species of turtle, all of which are at risk."

If making money and building property is all this government cares about, than I'll try to speak their language. Think about the damage that will inevitably arise on new properties that are built on wetlands. No one will want to buy properties that will have issues in their foundation and will open them up to the damage of flooding. Destroying wetlands increases flooding and erosion, which leads to higher insurance premiums, more frequent property damage, and massive repair bills for public infrastructure. Municipalities end up paying for damages that nature would have prevented for free. Use your head - the repeal of the Endangered Species Act is completely nonsensical.
