I oppose Bill 5. Environmental protections and species conservation and protection should be the priority, not social and economic considerations. However, I understand that both are important and so a balance is needed. This is why I oppose the shortcuts for industry that Bill 5 would bring. Proponents should not be able to begin activity immediately without ministry approved permits. Rushing new developments and skipping steps will prioritize economic considerations at the expense of environmental considerations. The permit process can be slow but those steps and protections are there for a reason. Ontario’s environment and animals are important, so of course going through all the considerations to protect them will take time and care. Nobody should be able to bypass these steps and considerations just because they do not want to wait to ensure that everything is in order and that the environment and animals are fully protected. Due to the reasons listed I oppose Bill 5.
